Strategy Advisor for Live Music and Performance, City of Sydney
Hugh Nichols is the City of Sydney’s Strategy Advisor for Live Music and Performance. He was the project manager of the City’s Live Music and Performance Taskforce and authored the resulting Live Music and Performance Action Plan, which guides the City’s support of the sector until 2019.
Hugh provides guidance to the sector on regulatory matters, government engagement, grants and funding and governance. He is responsible for policy development, operational and process reform, industry research, sector development projects and advocacy to other levels of government.
Hugh is also Co-Director of Black Mountain, an experimental music, drone and noise festival held in the NSW Blue Mountains. He has previously worked as a freelance arts and music writer, was Chair of Accessible Arts’ Supported Studio Network and an Editor at Das Platforms. He is a board member of Brand X.
