Creative Director/ Interior Designer/ Club Owner
Michael is a creative director, interior designer, club owner, instigator and bon vivant. After designing interiors for landmark nightclubs such as Sadies, he designed and helped establish Melbourne laneway stalwart MISTY in 2000.
He created HONKYTONKS, which opened in September 2001. HONKYTONKS won Bartender Nightclub of the Year in 2001 and 2006 and was named in the Top Ten Nightclubs in the Universe by prestigious US magazine ‘V’ in 2006. Designed and operated THIRD CLASS (2007 – 2009) Designed and operated SORRY GRANDMA! (2009 – 2011) Michael was voted 10th Most Influential Person in Australian Hospitality in 2009 and 5th Most Influential Person in Australian Hospitality in 2011 by Bartender Magazine. At the 2012 Bartender Awards he received the Outstanding Contribution Award and The Bottom End was voted Best New Hotel.
Creative Director at the legendary Prince of Wales in St Kilda (2010-2011). Designed and operated The Bottom End (including nightclubs SURVIVOR! and POOF DOOF) (2011 -2014)
In 2010 Michael also designed the award-winning Sydney hotels The Flinders, The Norfolk, and in 2011 The Carrington in Surry Hills and The Abercrombie in Chippendale and in 2012, Fratelli Sopra in Bridge St, Sydney, Cafe Nice by Fratelli in Circular Quay, The Forresters (2013 Hotel of the Year) in Surry Hills, House of Crabs in Redfern, The Oxford Tavern in Petersham, Fratelli Parlimento in Macquaries St, Sydney and has just re-opened 77 in Darlinghurst with International Worldwide partner, James Wirth.
