As part of our ‘The Future of Yesterday’ theme for EMC 2018, we’re bringing you curated playlists paying homage to some of the golden years in electronic and dance music from the last 4 decades – 1978; 1988; 1998; 2008 and 2018.
Bringing us a killer playlist from 2008 is DJ Mag’s digital editor Charlotte Lucy Cijffers. Find out what these tracks mean to her plus read some of her favourite moments from that year.
2008 was a year I definitely spent on the dancefloor so a lot of these tracks are really special to me. Booka Shade’s ‘Charlotte’ has always been one of my faves from this era (and not just because the title is also my name!) and Prydz’s ‘Pjanoo’ is a masterclass in big room production and an all-time Ibiza anthem. Jimpster, Benga and Radio Slave are all UK heroes that I’ve come to respect and love and I haven’t forgotten to include some Aussie flavour with acts like The Presets and Cut Copy!
I spent most of 2008 dancing on Sunday nights at a party called Fluffy in Brisbane!
Summerfielddayz is still one of my favourite memories from this period — Underworld headlined this year and they absolutely blew me away with live renditions of tracks like ‘Rez and ‘Juanita’ — also seeing amazing Aussie acts like Sneaky Soundsystem, Cut Copy and The Presets live at loads of festivals around Bris.
You can also catch Charlotte speaking at this years EMC. Tickets available here.
