NEXT GENERATION SCHOLARSHIPS

Background

Following EMC’s intensive full day masterclasses in April 2022, one participant from each masterclass group (3 participants total) will be selected to receive a 6 month professional development scholarship.

Created to support emerging artists in electronic and dance music, the program’s multi-faceted approach provides one-on-one professional development sessions for each participant, working with industry experts across modules of Artist Management, Music Production, Live Performance Development, Marketing and PR, and DIY Releasing.

The program runs from May to October with a different module each month, featuring weekly mentor sessions. The modules are as follows:

Background

Module 1 - May 2022: Management, working with the participants to:

- Articulate artistic vision - Goal setting - Develop a strategy to achieve these goals - Build their tribe / creative community - Identify what agents are looking for when recruiting talent - When is the right time to look for a manager, and what to look for in a manager - Overview of the kinds of contracts an artist should expect to see/understand in their career

Module 2 - June 2022: Music making, working with the participant to:

- Progress your music from demo/work in progress to a finished project - Outreach to potential collaborators on your music - Preparing your finished song/track - Choosing the right mix and mastering engineer for your music - Bouncing out for the mix engineer - What to listen for when approving the final mix - What to listen for when approving the final master

Module 3 - July 2022: Live Performance Development, working with the participant to:

- The processes involved in taking your productions from the studio to the stage - The fundamentals of live performance - Conceptualising and creating an engaging live performance - Understanding the stages of live performance development - Rehearsals and the 100 hours - Controller and Ableton Live sets - Different team roles for extensive interactive live stage shows

Module 4 - August 2022: Distribution for DIY artists, working with the participant to:

- Educate artists on the importance of metadata and recording/managing it properly - Setting up the release, further develop the release strategy - Identify potential playlists for their release Preparing playlisting pitches - Uploading and setting the release date - Release progress, monitoring wins, keeping momentum, best practices for the release cycle

Module 5 - September 2022: Marketing PR & Promotion, working with the participant to:

- Develop their release package including press images, video content, release artwork, social assets, artist bio, media release and social comms - Articulating your vision in a brief to creatives and designers to bring your release to life visually - Shooting press images and making video content on a limited budget - Develop and implement the release strategy

In addition to the one-on-one professional development across the five modules, scholarship recipients also receive a photo and video content suite, with EMC providing a professional photo and video team for filming in the sixth month of the program, plus an ad budget to amplify the digital content created around each participant. 

The total value of the professional development per participant is $7,500.
