Background

Electronic Music Conference (EMC) is excited to announce the program and speakers for its one-day conference on Tuesday 5 April at the Powerhouse Museum. Themed ‘The Reboot’, this immersive experience will take over one side of the Powerhouse Museum, unpacking the deep changes across the electronic and dance music industry, and rebooting in-person connections throughout our community. The Reboot program spotlights innovators and game-changing ways the industry is forging ahead despite it being the most restricted of all live music sectors, during the most challenging era ever experienced.

The condensed one-day program features three immersive and participatory panels designed to remove the barriers between artists, industry and community. The program includes a special  ‘On The Couch with Luude and His Team’, plus a series of social networking experiences to strengthen in-person connections throughout the day.

In addition to the core programming, EMC is revealing two new projects that interrogate the pressure points across mental wellbeing and club culture – two pertinent conversations needing serious investment and care.

The mental wellbeing project – AKAR – is a cross-continental collaboration focused on assisting electronic and dance music communities in the Asia Pacific region to receive support for their mental health and wellbeing. The project commences with a research undertaking in Australia, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia to evidence the gravity of mental health and wellbeing challenges within the electronic and dance music communities in these regions. EMC has partnered with Sivilian Affairs (Singapore), Wired Music Week (Malaysia) and Rainforest Pavilion (Indonesia) for this project.

Also being revealed is the Club Culture Census – a research project led by EMC, working with data scientist Ben Doherty, to gather intelligence on the health of club culture in Australia and to demonstrate the scope of challenges for venues, owners, operators and workers throughout the clubbing landscape.

‘The Reboot’ has been designed to encourage open dialogue after two years impacted by the pandemic. EMC has multiple ticket prices for those impacted by COVID financially, offering payment options in instalments or single session passes. EMC 2022 ‘The Reboot’ signifies our readiness for the unknown, embracing a future bursting with newfound hope, curiosity and inspiration.
